About the Departmental Library for Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies

Since 2009, the Departmental Library for Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies has been an organizational unit of the Central Library within the Department of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies in Germersheim. It contains a collection of about 200,000 monographs and 230 current print journals. In addition, it provides access to about 31,000 electronic journals licensed by the University Library Mainz (or over 58,000 if publications freely available over the internet are included), over 300 of the databases licensed by the University Library Mainz, almost 15,000 e-books acquired by the Library and well in excess of 350,000 e-books from national licenses.
The foci of the collection are the Translation Studies section (incorporating both Translation and Interpreting Studies) and the section for Linguistics and Cultural Studies as these relate to translation. It also includes literature on the 12 languages and specialist subjects (Information Technology, Medicine, Law, Engineering, Economics) offered at our library. Responsibility for the development of the collection, where this draws on departmental resources, lies with the faculty.

The library's holdings are kept in the reading room, the open shelves area and in closed stacks not accessible to users. Literature published after 1991 (and sometimes even before) can be searched for in the online catalog. Items published up to and including 1991 are indexed in the alphabetical and key word card catalog. We offer library users a wide variety of study options.
